Su Updates Tsai on Typhoon Situation over Phone|蘇揆視察災害應變中心 與總統電話連線

Premier Su Tseng-chang inspected the Central Emergency Operation Center and ordered the government to err on the side of caution in disaster prevention. Su also called for emergency response work to be completed ahead of time. He also phoned President Tsai Ing-wen, who is on an overseas tour, about the current situation.

Premier Su Tseng-chang attended a typhoon briefing at the Central Emergency Operation Center on the 17th and called on government agencies to be fully prepared for any and all eventualities. Tropical Storm Danas is expected to impact Taiwan the most on the 18th.

Based on past experience -- although the typhoon doesn't seem to be too big of a deal, we can't take it lightly. We have to face it with the utmost seriousness.

Based on the analysis, contact should start at 6 a.m. on the morning of July 18 and the typhoon will be over Taiwan by 8 a.m. As this happens to be a work day, what should local governments do about the overall work situation? We will ask all -- we will have relevant communication with local governments.

Su told government officials that no detail should be overlooked in disaster prevention. He later spoke with President Tsai Ing-wen on the phone to update her on the situation. Tsai, who is in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, also called on government agencies to be fully prepared.

The government team that is traveling overseas with us and the team that we left behind (in Taiwan) are closely monitoring the situation and being updated frequently. At the same time, we are remaining in constant contact with the Executive Yuan.

Officials say coastal areas should be on alert for high tide damage while mountainous areas should be on alert for landslides and rockslides. If needed, residents will be forcibly evacuated. Su also says the central government and local governments need to work together to minimize damage and everyone needs to take the situation seriously.
