Hong Kong Murder Suspect Shouldn't Come to Taiwan: Premier|陳同佳案 蘇揆:合理化送中 台灣不會上當

Premier Su Tseng-chang also reiterated his stance on the matter, calling Hong Kong's offer to surrender Chan a political scheme to play up the importance of the extradition bill. On the other hand, national policy advisor Huang Cheng-kuo was reported to have set up a meeting between reverend Canon Koon, the Provincial Secretary General of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui and Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung. Since reverend Canon Koon, is also a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Huang later on explained that he was not aware of Koon's connection to Beijing.

Chan Tong-kai, the Hong Kong man who confessed to murdering his girlfriend while on holiday in Taiwan, has agreed to surrender to Taiwanese authorities after finishing an 18-month prison sentence in Hong Kong on Oct. 23. However, Taiwan's government has turned down his request. During an interpellation session held at the Executive Yuan, Premier Su Tseng-chang reiterated his stance on the matter, calling Hong Kong's offer to surrender Chan a political scheme.

(You've said previously, in a bizarre statement, that Taiwan won't fall prey to Mainland China.) In the past, we have repeatedly asked for judicial cooperation in probing the case, but they simply ignored us. Now their attitude suddenly changed, and (the suspect from Hong Kong) is requesting to come to Taiwan.

I'm thinking this is China's attempt to play up the importance of the extradition bill. We won't take the bait. On the other hand, we are still hoping that the Hong Kong government will respond to the public's request and properly handle the extradition bill and not resort to political maneuvers.

It was reported that Huang Cheng-kuo, a national policy advisor, recently met with Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung along with reverend Canon Koon, the Provincial Secretary General of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, who is also a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Huang clarified the matter on October 22, saying that he wouldn't have brought or introduced Koon to the interior minister if he had known about his relationship with Beijing. Huang also said that Koon did talk about the Hong Kong suspect's request to come to Taiwan, but Hsu Kuo-yung did not promise anything.

(Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung) clearly said that we should directly speak to authorities in Hong Kong (regarding the Hong Kong suspect). And if I had known Koon's membership in Beijing, I wouldn't have introduced him to the Interior Minister.

(Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung) said that the Taiwan's law enforcement agency will put the Hong Kong suspect in detention as soon as he enters Taiwan. However, the National Immigration Agency did not grant him VISA, so he won't be able to enter Taiwan in the first place. Hsu is clearly lying about this.

The opposition KMT criticized the ruling DPP for prioritizing their political agenda over the justice system. It has also criticized Huang Cheng-kuo for dong Beijing's bid. Huang said that the criticism is misplaced and that he only introduced Koon to Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung because he was asking for help from Taiwan's government. Huang said was not aware of his connection to Beijing.
