The annual highlight of the ballroom dance calendar—the 2026 Asian Dance Tour – Taipei Open—will light up Taipei Arena on February 27–28. The world’s only traveling ballroom dance series returns to Taipei for the 15th time, bringing together a diamond-tier panel of international adjudicators and drawing nearly 1,000 competitors from 33 countries and territories. Dancers from Taiwan and abroad will vie for a total prize purse of up to NT$3.2 million.

Co-hosted by the Department of Sports, Taipei City Government and the Taiwan Dance Organisation, a pre-event press conference was held today (Feb. 4) to announce that the event will expand to a two-day format for the first time and will fully integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, inviting the public to experience a world-class spectacle in person.

Tang Hao-Yu, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Sports, Taipei City Government, said, “The Asian Tour is not only a competitive stage, but also a vital platform for Taipei’s international exchange. We hope to energize the city through the power of DanceSport, and we warmly invite the public to Taipei Arena to witness a world-class celebration of dance.”

Liu Shun-Yi, Chairman of the Taiwan Dance Organisation, noted that the event has been expanded to two days in response to steadily growing participation. Day One will spotlight youth, children, and the newly added ‘Youth Teacher–Student’ division, supporting grassroots development and nurturing future talent. Day Two will feature the pinnacle showdowns in international professional and amateur pair divisions, ensuring competitors of all ages have the opportunity to shine on an international stage.

Today’s press event offered a preview of the competition’s intensity with performances led by several of Taiwan’s top dancers, including national professional Latin champions Chen Yang-Yi and Gao Sheng-Wen, and national professional Standard champions Lin Chang-Hung and Li Wen-Hsuan. Also in the spotlight were rising stars Lan Yu-Hsiang (21) and Liu Jing (18), who made waves at the UK Open in the United Kingdom, as well as Wang Tzu-Lun and Qi Tzu-Hsuan, who have reached the Top 12 in the Latin category for the 21-and-under age group—all showcasing the next generation’s drive to compete on the world stage.

Another standout moment came from the “Youth Teacher–Student” division representatives—siblings Cheng Yu-Hsin (24) and Cheng Yu-Rong (8)—whose remarkable synergy vividly captured the spirit of intergenerational mentorship and legacy in ballroom dance.

In line with ESG and carbon-reduction efforts, Chen Wei-Chuan, Secretary-General of the Taiwan Dance Organisation, emphasized that from today’s press conference through the competition itself, directional signage and photo backdrops will be produced using highly recyclable corrugated cardboard, demonstrating tangible environmental action and underscoring that elite sport and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Organizers added that in addition to two days of high-energy competition, Saturday evening, February 28, will feature a grand finale “thank-you” showcase by six world-class DanceSport star couples, offering spectators a rare, up-close experience of international artistry and stage presence. The venue will also include food stalls, interactive challenge booths, and prize drawings. Ticket-holders will be eligible to receive a NT$100 shopping voucher upon entry, creating a weekend experience that combines thrilling competition with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.
