Ideas Magazine recently had the honor to interview Jin-fu Chang, a Minister without Portfolio in the Executive Yuan and the organizer behind the Committee on Digital Convergence, who shed light on the development and policy direction for digital convergence industries.

Chang stated that Taiwan's conversion from traditional broadcast television to full digital will be completed by June 30, 2012. The digitalization of broadcast television, known in the industry as terrestrial television, represents a spearhead for industrial digitalization in countries across the world. After going digital, everyone will be able to enjoy free digital programming and experience a digital lifestyle, which will in turn foster a greater need for such digital content.
張進福表示，台灣將在2012年6月30日完成無線電視數位轉換，無線電視數位化是各國整體廣電產業數位化的火車頭，數位化後，民眾可免費享受數位化影音節目，體驗數位化生活，並創造更大的收視需求。
In terms of the telecommunications industry branching out into broadcasting, internet protocol television is maturing at a steady rate. China Telecom's MOD already reaches over one million users. Telecom servers' devotion to deploying optic networks will hopefully spur developments in the network industry and the promising area of video services. With both the telecommunications and broadcasting industries engaged in a battle for consumers' attention and their TV remote, consumers would ultimately be the biggest winner. A cheaper and faster broadband internet environment would emerge as a result and stimulate development in the emerging cloud industry, which includes various cloud services and e-commerce.
