All it takes to play tennis is two people, two rackets1, a ball, a net, and a tennis court. Each player takes turns hitting the ball over the net, trying to make it difficult for their opponent to return the shots. It sounds simple, but amazing things can happen in tennis matches. The roots of tennis go quite far back in history, but the modern game originated from a version played in England in the late 1800s. It was called lawn4 tennis because it was played on grass. Today, games are played on grass as well as clay5 and hard courts, and the rules haven't changed much over the years. However, the equipment is better, and the games are much faster. Also, tennis tournaments are watched by millions all over the world each year.
