Lighting up the night sky with LED bicycle spoke lights 鐵馬LED彩繪夜空
The movie Island Etude sparked off a wave of interest in round-the-island cycling trips in Taiwan. Since then, folding bicycles (known colloquially as xiao zhe, or “Little Foldy”) have become increasingly popular. Their lightweight, convenient design has encouraged both men and women, young and old to take up cycling. A team of four optoelectronic R&D engineers headed by Anvii Co., Ltd. CEO Clement Lin had noticed the growing popularity of cycling as a leisure activity in Taiwan; they had also noticed that many cyclists did not have sufficient lighting on their bikes when riding at night, and that the bicycle lamps they did use were very boring. The four lighting enthusiasts had seen examples of bicycles in other countries that had been customized using LED lights, and it occurred to them that attaching LED lights to a bicycle’s wheels would be an innovative, exciting idea. The goal was to make it possible for cyclists riding at night to keep safe while at the same time expressing their own personal aesthetic sensibility; this was the thinking behind Anvii’s “Rainbow Wheel” LED lights.
從電影《練習曲》開始，台灣掀起一股單車環島熱潮，而後俗稱「小折」的折疊式腳踏車興起，它輕巧方便的設計，吸引男女老幼一同加入，享受乘風騎車的樂趣。包括安瑞光電總經理林福興在內的4個從事光電研發的工程人員，注意到台灣這股夜騎風潮，但自行車族的夜間照明設備卻似乎不太充足，而且顯得單調。愛燈玩燈的這4個人，看到國外有人將LED 燈應用在車子的改裝上，也開始動腦筋，設法把LED燈裝在車輪上，打造具有創意的輪燈。要讓自行車族在夜騎中，兼顧安全又擁有獨特品味的照明美感，因而催生出安瑞光電的「魔法輪」。
“Rainbow Wheels” use a set of three LED spoke lights that are attached to the spokes of a bicycle wheel. They make use of the “persistence of vision” phenomenon; when the wheels are rotating rapidly, they create a range of colorful images. There is no reason why the scope of applications for this innovative concept need be limited to transportation vehicles. For example, an LED product of this type has been installed on the ceiling fan of a Japanese restaurant, creating a striking, unique atmosphere on summer nights. Anvii also sells “Rainbow Wheels” display stands to bicycle retailers; the image shown on the wheel can be customized to meet the needs of individual stores (for example, the lights can display the store’s name, its logo, or its telephone number). This helps to attract attention to the store in the same way that a neon sign does, while at the same time providing additional exposure for Anvii’s products. Anvii is currently working on more promotional initiatives of this type.
魔法輪是藉由三支LED輪燈，安裝在自行車輪的輪軸上，利用視覺暫留的原理，讓車輪在快速轉動下，構成一幅幅絢麗的圖形。同時，這項產品很有創意，不一定要局限在交通工具上，如曾有日本的居酒屋店，將產品安裝在夏日的大輪軸風扇上，到了夜間，反而創造店內另一種風景，也讓我們很驚艷。我們也將魔法輪的展示台做成商品之一，販售給自行車店，LED顯示的圖案都可以為店家量身打造，像是店名、商標或是電話，一方面為店家帶來霓虹燈般的目光吸引力，一方面也宣傳我們的產品。我們正在朝此方向努力。
