Integrating cloud computing and monitoring to create a new-generation power management system A major breakthrough in power utilization – Safe, and energy-saving! 整合雲端與監控 打造新一代電力管理系統 用電大創新 安全更節能

Despite the government’s ongoing promotion of energy conservation and carbon reduction, and despite the fact that most households now have a basic understanding of the importance of saving energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, there has been no significant fall in the overall amount of energy consumed. This is not wholly attributable to failure on the part of energy users to take energy conservation seriously; there are also many environmental issues that lead to wastage, such as the use of antiquated electrical equipment, damaged circuits, etc., all of which can lead to excessively high power load. The Smart Network System Institute (SNSI), Institute for Information Industry has developed a new “In-Snergy” cloud-computing-based, smart, green energy system which integrates wireless communications, electric power leads and cloud computing platforms to collect various categories of information from source, including data relating to equipment status, usage habits, the amount of power consumed, etc. This makes it possible to develop a clearer picture of user behavior, and facilitates transparent, accurate analysis and management.
雖然政府不斷推動節能減碳政策,家家戶戶已有基本的節能減碳觀念,能源使用量卻沒有明顯下降。這並非完全是因用電人未遵守節能原則,而是環境中有太多因素導致損耗,如電器老舊、線路破損等,都會造成供電上的負擔。由資策會智慧網通系統研究所(簡稱智通所)開發的In-Snergy雲端智慧綠能系統,結合無線通訊、電力線及雲端平台等項目,從源頭收集各種資訊,包含設備狀態、用電習慣甚至是用電量等,取得使用者行為,達到透明、精準的分析管理。

“In-Snergy is more than just green energy and carbon reduction,” explains SNSI Director Feng Ming-hui. “It represents a more comprehensive energy usage management philosophy, and a more comprehensive type of energy management system. With guidance from the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs, our research team has succeeded in integrating information technology – a field in which Taiwan is particularly strong – with practical, comprehensive planning. Our aim was to start from the most fundamental elements, to develop a system that can provide a fundamental solution to the various challenges that are encountered in energy usage management.” The Institute for Information Industry is already using In-Snergy in its offices and in the Minsheng Technology Services Building, achieving average savings of 8% - 27% on electricity consumption!

The In-Snergy cloud-computing-based, smart, green energy management system was one of the winners of the 49th R&D 100 Awards (which the Chicago Tribune has described as the “Oscars of Invention”), the results of which were announced in June this year. This represents impressive international recognition of Taiwan’s achievements in technology integration and new concept innovation.
